Doug MacDonald

Originally from Philadelphia, he began his career in Hawaii, where he played with Trummy Young and Gabe Balthazar, and with Del Courtney at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Relocating to Las Vegas, Doug found himself immersed in a vibrant music scene, and began playing in lounges and showrooms with jazz greats, including Joe Williams, Carl Fontana, Jack Montrose, and Carson Smith. On to Los Angeles, Doug played in the bands of Bill Holman, Ray Anthony, and John Clayton, and performed and recorded with Jake Hanna, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Sheldon, Bob Cooper, Ross Tompkins, Ray Brown, Buddy Rich, and Ray Charles. Doug also began recording and performing with his own trio and quartet, as well as his 13 piece ensemble, The Jazz Coalition. Throughout his career the guitarist has caught the attention of noted jazz writers and critics. Michael Nastos of All Music Guide wrote, “a veteran guitarist who know his influences cold, and consistently plays to his strong suit.” Scott Yanow wrote of MacDonald, “...a fine bop-based guitarist in the tradition of Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, and Joe Pass.” Chicago Tribune’s Zan Stewart captured so much of MacDonald when he wrote, “...beautiful bell-clear sounds and a sure-footed sense of swing.” drummer Harold Acey round out the personnel.” Back on the West Coast, MacDonald continues to do what he loves and does best, perform, record and in the past few years teaching via online lessons. He continues to tour and perform around 300 plus performances a year across the country from Hawaii to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York City, as well as to Spain, Hawaii, Finland, Estonia, and England. Some of the venues include Cezanne, in Houston, The Jazz Showcase, in Chicago, and Carnegie Hall and Mezzrow, both in New York City to name a few. In 2018, he performed on the East coast with Steinway artist Lenore Raphael and her Quartet. The guitarist states, “Earlier on as a Jazz musician you pay your dues and work hard every minute. MARK GUTIERREZ Guitarist, Pianist, Vocalist, and Composer MARK GUTIERREZ, a Los Angeles native is a multi-talented musician well versed in many styles of music including Jazz, Classical, Blues, Rock, Latin, and Flamenco.  This versatility finds him in many different musical situations whether it be on stage performing with his group, other groups, solo, or in the studio. He received his formal musical training at the California State University of Los Angeles where he graduated with a B.A. and a M.A., majoring in Jazz and classical performance.  While in college, he was awarded 2nd place at the American String Teachers Association solo classical guitar recital-competition. He was also awarded Most Outstanding Guitarist at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival and was awarded Outstanding Musicianship as an arranger. Mark currently has three cds released:  “That’s So Cool” which features a mixture of latin, jazz, and pop styles, “Spanish Nights”, which features latin and flamenco styles, and “I’ll Just Groove”, which features jazz, funk, rock, and pop styles. Mark has performed and/or recorded with many of L.A.’s top Latin and Jazz performers: Marcos Loya, Juan Carlos Quintero, Johnny Blas, Bobby Rodriquez, Susie Hansen. He has also performed with Jerry Rivera, Trini Lopez, Joan Sebastian, Joe Bataan, The Crystals,The Johnny Crawford Orchestra, and was the guitarist in the school program entitled “Music: the Universal Language” sponsored by the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. His original music was heard in the feature film "Bachelorette" starring Kirsten Dunst, tv shows "NCIS", “The Sopranos”, “One Life to Live”, “The Young and the Restless”,  “All My Children”, and he was seen on MTV’s “Till Death Do Us Part” performing his own music.  Mark has also written and recorded music for Miller beer and Budweiser commercials. In Theater, Mark played guitar in the East Los Angeles Classic Theater’s production of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”.  On screen he appeared in the Warner Brothers movie “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” as a member of the Mambo band.  On television he appeared in “Seventh Heaven” and “For Your Love”. Teaching credits include guitar instruction at the Plaza de la Raza summer workshops and classes at the Dick Grove School of Music and the Los Angeles Music Academy. Mark currently endorses Heritage guitars and Seymour Duncan pickups.
